Thailand is the go-to destination for group trips from India: bachelor and bachelorette parties, college reunions, friends' getaways and office trips. It's close, affordable and has something for every kind of group.

The challenge is logistics. Coordinating 8 or 20 people is very different from planning for two. Here's how to get it right.

Best destinations for groups

Phuket

The all-rounder. Big villas, beach clubs, yacht charters, island trips and Bangla Road's famous nightlife. Perfect for groups who want a mix of adventure and partying.

Pattaya

Close to Bangkok, budget friendly and lively, with water sports, Coral Island and plenty of nightlife. Good for shorter trips and larger groups.

Bangkok

Rooftop bars, clubs, street food and shopping. Two nights here pairs perfectly with a beach destination.

Koh Phangan and Koh Samui

Famous for the Full Moon Party on Haad Rin beach (check dates). Samui offers luxury villas for groups who want a more relaxed vibe.

Krabi

Quieter, but ideal for adventure groups: rock climbing at Railay, kayaking, island hopping and night markets. See Phuket vs Krabi to compare.

A 5-night group itinerary

  • Days 1 to 2: Bangkok. Arrival, rooftop bar, street food tour, nightlife on Sukhumvit.
  • Day 3: Fly to Phuket. Check into a private pool villa. Evening at Bangla Road.
  • Day 4: Yacht or speedboat charter to Phi Phi and nearby islands, with music and snorkelling. (See our Phi Phi guide.)
  • Day 5: Beach club day followed by a group dinner and show.
  • Day 6: Depart.

Experiences groups love

  • Private yacht or catamaran charter with snorkelling stops and onboard music.
  • Beach clubs in Phuket, with pools, DJs and day beds.
  • Muay Thai session or watching a live fight.
  • ATV or zipline adventures in the jungle.
  • Island hopping by speedboat.
  • Cabaret shows in Phuket and Pattaya.
  • Thai cooking class for something different.
  • Group spa day to recover.

Villa or hotel?

For groups of 6 or more, a private pool villa often costs less per person than hotel rooms and gives you your own space to hang out. Villas can include a chef, daily cleaning and a BBQ night.

Hotels work better for big groups (15+), mixed groups, or office trips where people want their own rooms and resort facilities.

Group logistics made easy

  1. Fix dates early. Lock dates at least 2 to 3 months ahead to get good flight fares for everyone.
  2. Collect deposits. Ask each traveller to pay a deposit to confirm their spot.
  3. Use one organiser. One person (or one travel agent) handles bookings and communication.
  4. Book group flights. Airlines offer group fares for 10+ passengers, often with flexible name changes.
  5. Plan private transfers. A van or coach for the group keeps everyone together.
  6. Share a clear itinerary with pickup times and emergency contacts.
  7. Keep a shared kitty for tips, drinks and shared meals.

Budget for a group trip

Per person, sharing villas or twin rooms, including flights from India:

  • Budget (Pattaya and Bangkok, 4 nights): Rs 40,000 to 55,000
  • Mid-range (Bangkok and Phuket, 5 nights, villa): Rs 65,000 to 90,000
  • Premium (Phuket villa, yacht, beach clubs): Rs 1,10,000+

Party spending varies a lot, so agree a rough budget in advance. More detail in our Thailand trip cost guide.

Group packing checklist

  • Swimwear, beachwear and a smart-casual outfit for rooftop bars and beach clubs
  • Matching T-shirts or props for the bachelor or bachelorette (always a hit in photos)
  • Reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses and a cap
  • Waterproof phone pouches for boat days
  • A portable speaker for the villa
  • Basic medicines: hangover relief, ORS, seasickness tablets and plasters
  • Photocopies of passports and a shared emergency contact list

Staying safe and respectful

A good group trip is one everyone remembers for the right reasons:

  • Use licensed transport and pre-booked transfers, especially late at night.
  • Watch your drinks and stick together in nightlife areas.
  • Know the rules. Drugs carry severe penalties. Vapes and e-cigarettes are illegal. Don't disrespect images of the monarchy or Buddha.
  • Carry a copy of your passport and keep the original in the hotel safe.
  • Check bills carefully in bars, and agree prices before activities.
  • Respect locals, especially at temples and in residential areas.
  • Get travel insurance that covers adventure activities.

Entry requirements

Everyone in the group needs a passport valid for 6+ months, return tickets, hotel bookings and the Digital Arrival Card. See our visa guide for Indians.
